Travel Day (Day 0)

Writing on the plane at Heathrow with 9 hours flight ahead.
It seemed an odd start to the day. Holiday flights always seem to be at silly o'clock whereas this trip involved a casual pack yesterday followed by a normal rise and breakfast time. Last night did however inevitably involve a trip to Tesco's for a replacement suitcase.
The last few days I have been re-checking paperwork. I think it's all OK but will be glad to get beyond the car rental which will mark the end of entry to the US and start of journey. After that it's just hotels, we can continue our holiday.
--------------------------------

Writing now we're passing over Blackpool Tower having flown from Manchester to Heathrow and then back North - Over our House! Fortunately all has been on time, even 5 min early in London. We had a tight transfer at Heathrow and just managed to buy and eat a Boots meal deal before boarding for Denver. Flying with BA who have been spot on so far.

We moved seats on check in yesterday and selected further back so Lynne would have an unobstructed view behind the wing. Unfortunately, as the fuselage contours in these few rows have narrower seats. It's ok but elbows are really confined for writing. I was going to type straight into my  notebook PC but the people in front have reclined so I now have a seat back in my face as well and can't open the lid/screen. Drafting with pen and paper to type up tonight.
Next stop, Denver, Colorado.
---------------------------------

3.5 hours in we're passing the southern shores of Greenland and can see sparking white icebergs dotted around the sea. As we pass further we can see the ice flows reaching the sea and breaking up. Inland it looks quite mountainous but as we pass over the land is covered in deep snow flattening any contour.

----------------------------------

West of Hudson Bay we're passing over Winnipeg and Montana, the lands of the Ice Road Truckers which we quite enjoy watching.
----------------------------------

Landed at Denver and passed through without event then shuttle to Alamo car rental lot where we've collected a California plated Dodge Journey Standard SUV. We had booked a Mid-Size and they tried to sell us an upgrade to a Full which I refused so I'm glad we didn't pay. I think there are 2 reasons, 1, the last Mid-Size had actually just been taken off the lot and 2, it's an out of state reg' and we're a one way hire so they get rid of it.

----------------------------------

20 min drive, checked into La Quinta, popped out to McDonalds for a bite, typed this up, going to bed.
It's 21:15 here but 04:15 according to my body clock so we've been up for about 21 hours.
Good Night!
